THE GIVEN NOTE explores Irish Traditional Music through an open, interpretive lens. Through Nathan Bishop’s expressive fiddle and hardanger d'amore, and Rob Curto’s open approach to piano, button accordion and analog synthesizer, they exist in the space between melody and texture, balancing tradition with experimentation.

Rob Curto has toured extensively with diverse artists such as Lila Downs, David Krakauer, Frank London of the Klezmatics, and his groups Matuto and Rob Curto's Forró for All. In 2022 he was a recipient of the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant from the State of Pennsylvania for intensive study with the great Irish Traditional accordion master Billy McComiskey.

Nathan Bishop regularly performs with Midnight on the Water, Faoileán, La Fiocco, and with various duo projects. He has music directed for Mariner Theatrical and JoAnna Mendl Shaw’s the Equus Project, and was artist-in-residence at the Mignolo Arts Center. He co-founded the When Waves Collide music and dance festival. He has presented workshops on playing and teaching the fiddle at the University of New Hampshire and NJASTA and regularly teaches at Folk College and the Ashokan Center. A Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts graduate, he studied fiddle with Cleek Schrey and plays on the 46th Håkedal hardanger d’amore.
